Austin Robey

This is a longer update, filled with our final platform preview, important organizational news, and upcoming opportunities for your involvement. As we approach our v1 launch, there’s a lot happening that we’re excited to share with you.

Platform Preview: Member Profiles & Collections

WATCH THIS VIDEO WALKTHROUGH OF MEMBER PROFILES & COLLECTIONS

For this third and final platform update before our v1 launch, we’re showcasing:

  • Member profile pages that display your purchased tracks in your Library
  • Profile pages featuring your curated Collections
  • Enhanced curatorial capabilities allowing you to add both Releases and Artist Profile Pages to Collections
  • Shareable Collection links for easy discovery
  • Custom images for Collections to personalize your curation

Questions To Consider

  1. From a Member’s perspective, what information would you like to see on your Member Profile?
  2. What elements would you like to see on your Collection Pages?
  3. What features are important to you in the Add to Collection experience?

Coming Next Week: Policy Feedback & Board Nominations

Policy Documents
Next week, we’ll introduce a new kind of feedback opportunity: policy review. We’ll release refined drafts of our bylaws, member agreement, terms of use, privacy policy, and licensing/IP agreements (everything we have) for member commenting. This is your chance to see how our documents work together to provide safeguards for cooperative control and offer meaningful input on our governance structure. We want your feedback and critiques. Let’s get into the details together.

Board Nominations
Next week, we’ll also open nominations for our Board of Directors. As a member, you’ll have the opportunity to run for election and help guide Subvert’s future. Our current board consists of two Worker Members and one Artist Member. In May we will elect 3 additional Board Directors. This will include one Artist Member, one Label Member, and one Supporter Member.

Organizational Updates

Legal Structure
We’ve officially formed Subvert Inc, a Public Benefit Corporation wholly owned by Subvert Cooperative. This establishes the foundation for our dual entity model and means we’re nearly ready to accept investment.

Funding Progress

  • We’ve completed phase I of our funding waterfall process 2 (revenue and grants)
  • Our platform fee voucher program brought in $23,400
  • We’ve begun conversations with a nonprofit interested in supporting Subvert
  • To date, we remain fully self-funded

We’re now moving to our next phase, focusing on investment from individual members, followed by aligned funds. We’re committed to providing weekly updates in the forum about our funding efforts, ensuring transparency and space for member input.

Timeline Update

We’ve refined our development timeline:

  • End of April: Begin onboarding select artists to our alpha platform for initial testing
  • Beginning of June: Full platform launch with an elected board of directors, complete legal and organizational model, and our first Subvert Quarterly event

Zine Update

The second print run of “Plan For The Artist-Owned Internet” is almost finished. We’ll ship your orders as soon as they arrive. We apologize for any delays in getting your zines to you.

Thank you for being part of building collectively-owned music infrastructure. Your continued feedback and support are invaluable as we work toward our June launch.

Sincerely Ours,
Subvert
