Team & Board
Subvert is run by its members. The board is elected by Co-op Members and accountable to them. The workers who build and operate the platform are themselves Co-op Members, employed by the cooperative.
Board of Directors
The board consists of representatives elected by each membership class. Each class elects its own representatives, so every kind of member has a voice on the board. Our board composition consists of nine seats: (3) Artist, (2) Label, (2) Supporter, (2) Worker.
- Freya Yamamoto — Label Member, Board Chair
- Hannah Lee Benson — Artist Member, Secretary
- Iz Ocampo — Artist Member, Treasurer
- Austin Robey — Worker Member
- Sean Adams — Worker Member
- Nick Austin — Supporter Member
- John Garry — Board Observer (non-voting)
Three additional seats, one each for Artist, Label, and Supporter Members, will be elected at the next Annual General Meeting.
Worker Members
The cooperative employs four Worker Members who build and operate Subvert day to day.
- Austin Robey — Director (full time, New York City)
- Sean Adams — Worker Member (full time, New York City)
- Lucy Liu — Worker Member (part time, New York City)
- Mitch Maynard — Worker Member (part time, Lisbon)
The Corporation has no employees of its own. All staff are employed by the co-op.
Other roles
In addition to the board and Worker Members, the cooperative draws on its broader membership for several other roles, including the Ownership Assembly, the Cooperative Moderation Panel, Forum Moderators, and the Co-op Curators. These bodies are described in Bodies & Roles.
